Default cc01 fj cruiser hardbody project !

heres the scoop......i own a 07 yellow fj 4x4,i wanted a rc just like it!
as we all know the best (ifs sra) 4x4 there is.....cc01.
ill probally get shot for saying this but here goes...im in no way a tamiya fan, this is my first new tamiya kit,ive owned 2 used tamiya's before.
this is a great kit, came with light kit.
still need to bolt down the body and add electronics.
onto the build ill try to keep it nice, clean and simple.
all my pic will be added to this post too seperate the talk from the progress, because alot of us view many pages just looking for pics.
i started assembly, left the front diff open for now and locked the rear.
here are a few pics of a basic cc01 build platform, everything is stock.
body donor.......$30-$60....ebay,target online only.
its listed as 1/10 but the wheelbase of the toy r/c chassis is 1/10,the body is 1 in shorter than my 1/10 fj.

with better looking wheels and front lift, using 1/8 rubber servo groments

heres the wheelbase

ive agreed to sell these creepers on tundra wheels to a fellow member by friday,if by saturday he desides he dont want them, they will be used here!
heres a sneek peek

here we get to the body mounts......the part i hate the most!
i didnt want holes in my hood ,or roof.
so i used the supplied rear pin type mounts, they lined up great with the rear bumper.
i hate using pins but i can deal with them.
now on the front i built a styrene mountng pad that screwed to the body, then added the supplied body mount and secured it to the back side of the pad.
once on the body, the front willed be screwed to the stock body screw holes.

front mount

a quick vid with my phone.
cc01 on ice....i know it may not be a big deal to you guys, but i see ice about every 5-8 years down here.

did the wheelbase workout exactly right once you put the fj body on it? or did you do some work?

at first it was 1/4-3/8 to long,so i worked it out on the rear links locations.
i removed all 4 part # m2's
and screwed the upper rear link ball links into the existing m2 part location.
and the lower links were a direct bolt up too.
had to shorten the driveshaft by 1/4 of an inch also
ill shoot a pic if you need one.
but the wheelbase was just right for this body without cutting/drilling/modding any part of the chassis

so if you wanted to return it to its stock form, you will just have to install the 4 parts along with the 4 screws and 2 nuts, and put the rear shocks in the furthest mounting location!

i added a pic for the wheelbase adjustment.

i agree with ya on the creepers,i may take you up on the shocks!

if i keep the creepers.....i know ill put this rig in mud and water.
like every rig i put in the drink......i ruin the drivetrain.
i wanna keep this one in good shape.
keeping the creepers are up to the buyer i came to an agreement with.
im happy with the stocks for now!

but shes looking fine with the creepers!

i guess next ill look into a proper lift and mods to get more steering throw and the ball bearing steerin upgrade. .

so far i love this lil rig.....its so neat.....and clean!
edit.....more steering throw added!
just took it for the first run.....lots of fun!
im running a duratraxx esc, with 9.6 volt 700 mah walmart battery.
drifts like a pro drifter on my hardwood, and ceramic tile floor!
heck even drifted on concrete with hard stock tires.
gets about 20-25 mph......need to put a 35-45 turn lathe motor in her, that should slow her down a bit.
for some unknown reason the stock esc just beeps. i dont think its compatible with my a&e xp2 rx/tx.
run time was about 15 min on this cheap battery.
ill put my xl-5 ,slower motor and my 11.1 lipo from my heli in her soon.
