wpl project
this has to be the fastest body swap ever.
old new bright silverado on the wpl chassis.
rear axel needs to move foward just a tiny bit.
ive got an extra wpl drivetrain, gonna build a gearbox that will run a 150 rpm gear motor.nothing fancy.

Where did you get that bodie?

Will it go faster if you paint it blue?

igotit 12-18-2017 07:15 PM

the body came from a early 90's micro machine,i used 9 back to back coats of pactra ultra blue to increase size untill the wheelbase closely matched the wpl chassis.
i timed the last blue coat, when it was almost dried i sprayed rustolem quick dry brilliant red over the blue to lock in the size as a red body.was kinda tricky, had to oversize with blue because i knew the red would shrink it down some.
took a good bit of time to perfect that method......but it was worth it in the end.

i think painting anything blue will effectivly slow any rc down, due to the complicated physics involved .....increase size, increase weight affect.not to mention the added drivetrain stress involved in blue rigs.
i hope ive answered correctly.

Please post a tutorial vid.

i have a complete series of tech vids here, this website will help you better understand complicated issues associated with projects like this.

still waiting on the parts to arrive,i printed the new gearbox that will hold the n20 gear motors.(1 motor per axel)
i hope the n20 motors will be enough power.
this new tranny and mount is a direct bolt onto the wpl platform.n20s come in a few different gear ratios.i chose 150 rpm for test.
also printing out a bolt on mount to fit a 9g servo upfront.

and heres the setup in action....not my vid.

Looks interesting but I assume that 150 rpm motors result in a rather low speed when compared to the original WPL setup.

igotit 12-23-2017 12:29 PM

im expecting it to be slow, but the n20 is available in 5 different rpms

igotit 12-23-2017 05:50 PM

got a traxxas 2.4 tqi,losi mini lst 2 esc,a unknown light controller,and a beat copterx 9g servo.
the servo bracket is a tight fit in the frame,i used 4 screws from the case of a old 9g servo to secure the bracket to the wlp frame, use pin vise to drill the holes.
now im just waitin for my motors to show up,for now ill just hookup stock motor to the esc and run her.then ill try to see what kinda battery options i considering 18650 cells.....i have a few lying around that are 3000 mah.

everything fit snugly, big esc, light unit under battery box,tx iontop of tranny inside interior tunnel.
trimmed rear lower wall of battery box.
feels like it has more power with the new/old esc,she drives better with 9g beat servo.

ol girl blew a motor today.also done some fpv with her.
also split gear box open, stock plastic is brittle.glued it back together.

for the past couple of hours my son and i were in the streets,im driving my wpl fpv from the moniter, hes running along side of wpl is slightly faster i perfected the pit manuver on poor truck ate 2 steering servos, and sliped the front diff yoke, ripped the rear leafs out the hangers his wpl is box stock and solid as can be.
next time ill get it on vid, from my moniters pov its a high speed chase with the camera mounted on the roof.
so much fun with 2 of these and son is 9 years old and loves anything rc,hes beggin me to upgrade his truck like mine.beggin to put the camera on his ,hes got $55 christmas and birthday money saved up,trying my best to talk him into buying his own mods.....he aint budging on that money though.
id be fair,id give him a rx/tx,servo mount and servo, and leds, for $50 i can buy him his own vtx and rx,hook up his own moniter and we could both have fpv to play bumper cars.

The fpv test from last night using my $20 tx03 micro vtx camera.

Those mods look killer and i love that you have a fpv setup on there!

Would you mind sharing the servo mount printer file?

and the servo mount file in stl format

im loving this cheap truck, mods are easy n cheap.
just made a new camera case for it,really tried hard to put the tx03 inside cab but the big antenna wont allow.
so back on the roof for now.
im really liking the fpv aswell.
its all budget built
$30 vrx,$20 vtx/camera,$10 antennas, used dvd player for the screen, garage sale case and $10 12v sla battery to power the case.
there is a better camera for $18 at gearbest.
same size but different ant and hd quality view.

got all my parts in,axels,motors.....imageshack cut me off and wants me to pay $4 a mth to allow me to keep posting pics.
so i guess i just wont be posting pics for awhile guys.
