Jeez. This is my first car since '07. I don't understand all the new gigahertz radio and LiPo batteries, and can barely figure out how to charge my old NiMH's.

It must be a helluva culture shock for you with 2 decades of new stuff.

Although, with the re-releases, it is great to get some grubby hands on the stuff we grew up with.

I'm looking forward to seeing your build. Haven't been this enthused about RC's since the HiLift Hilux came out.

I'm up on all the new gear because of my airplane habit. I have a plane half done but my wrist went to hell "sanding" and I shelved it. Now I have to decide if I should have a procedure and start the car when it heals or go for an injection and suffer through it so I don't have to prolong the build.

Tower Hobbies had updated the status as "on order" and now it has changed again to late December.

They do have a photo of the model now and additional "NOTES FROM OUR TECH DEPARTMENT" available.

When I loctite all this aluminum, can I put a dab on the screws when I rip a bag open and then proceed with each section?

I'm assuming Blue Loctite is the way to go.

Arcocustom 12-11-2014 11:09 PM

The kit comes with a big bottle of Blue thread-locker. Blue is the removable type. Red is permanent. There is only one step in the manual that requires the use of thread-lock and that is Step 19.

http://www.kyosho.com/jpn/support/in...on_2014_im.pdf

You want to dispense a small amount onto something like a scrap piece of plastic and then carefully dip your fastener into the puddle in order to apply a very thin coat on about 4 of the threads.

*NOTE - The set screw on the motors pinion gear could also use a small dab to keep it from backing out.

Wow, I have scanned the manual so many times and managed to overlook that. Getting old sucks big time! :) Duh!!!

Sensor Cable - For neat wiring 110mm? 170mm? more?

Arcocustom 12-13-2014 07:08 PM

Best example I could find where someone installed a sensor based brushless motor.

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/inde...=73035&page=23

You will have to photograph or mark your sensor harness and carefully remove the plug to route it through the tub. The stock length cable should work if you route it through the provided opening.

Thanks!

I'm going to order a thunder power sensor cable. The stock unit that came with the LeMans motor is pathetic. Bare wires with spiral silicone and no strain relief!

Arcocustom 12-14-2014 12:07 AM

Oh. You are running the LeMans. I should probably go and measure from the motor to the speedo mount so it does not end up too short. gimme a minute...

**EDIT
I measured the car and I would go with at least a 150mm sensor harness just to be safe. I just checked the Thunder Power site and they only offer the 3 lengths so I reckon a 200mm would be the one to go with. http://www.thunderpowerrc.com/Products/Motor

Tamiya makes a nice harness with all the same specs in a 16cm length. ITEM# 54318
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tamiya-54318...item2c8d8c4eb8
Hope this helps.

Thanks my friend!!! I just ordered a 200mm TP cable. ;)

Scrounged up some more spy-shots of the 2014 Beetle.

Apparently the Black details are a vinyl sticker and they look pretty bad up close. These parts would look better painted IMO.

http://www.kyosho.com/eng/products/r...duct_id=109977

A few NEW option parts to go along with the "2014" Beetle too... like the Silver Sidewinder Mag wheels...

Part Number SCH004SC
RearWheel (SatinChrome/2pcs/BEETLE 2014)

Part Number SCH003SC
FrontWheel (SatinChrome/2pcs/BEETLE 2014)

The F/R wheels are also going to come molded in Black.

If I can pull off a decent paint job,,... my Scorpion/Beetle is gonna be "Drop Dead Gorgeous". Wife tells me I spent about 1300 balloons on this car. With all the radio gear of course. I still need a TP battery.

I'm gonna start with paint so I'm not rushing it after the build. :D

The Beetle tube bumper is released!

Looking forward to seeing your build, Blue. Hope you post lots of pics of your progress.

I will be posting as I go. I can't keep up with the parts anymore. I got the shiny centerlines and now they have satin slots that I originally wanted but could not find since Pargu isn't getting those back in stock. Then I order the small bumper and now they have the cool tube bumper I like.

Then I have to get the VW mount kit and body for show and the eBay bug body I bought for non-shelf use.

Blah. Blah, Blah, my head is spinning.

Next car is gonna be a Proline Pro 2-SC or Pro-MT,,...

With bug body of course. And I'm gonna beat the snot out of that thing since the Scorp/Beetle is turning out to be some kind of a museum piece.

Yeeeessssssssssshhhhh,,...
