Have I missed the Scorpion re-re discussion?

I used the search and didn't find any mention of the new Kyosho Scorpian re-release here...
I haven't gotten too excited about any other buggies before, but I think I may need this one!!

toyranosaur 07-06-2014 12:05 PM

I don't think there is one yet Mate (I could easily be wrong though.) Some interest shown in a thread in my forum, I just mentioned it looked like a must-have & a few chaps agree: We need a real thread though. Hey! Here's a crazy idea- Why don't we START ONE?!? :Happybounce: Hell Yeah! This IS a board Of, For, and By The People! What brilliance! So, how do we do that?? :pChris REC

cafestomp 07-07-2014 10:21 PM

That's just crazy talk!:bacondance:

Okay. Well. It looks super awesome...meaning scale, lots of metal from stock and the potential to upgrade nicely. I think the proportions of this one may be the best I think I've seen. And the very first person I thought of was you when I saw this vehicle! (Really!)
I thought, man, Tyranosaur is going to have some sweet stuff for this one!

Trini2DBone 07-07-2014 10:44 PM

Wow! These look awesome! I'm gonna have to get one as well! Anyone know when they will be available?

Ha! Thanks Cafe! Anymore, this is the only kind of release that I care about personally- Just not inspired by the modern crop. Everyone seems so worried about performance! I've built 2 runners that became so powerful they were not as fun to drive anymore (Not that I drive much.)

The faux Al. wheels are so nicely done I'd be hard put to make better: Just a cool kit all 'round. Now, if Arco gets hold of one, lookout!! Christ, you make such nice cars it kinda ticks me off a lil' somehow. :firedevil: Chris REC

Arcocustom 07-08-2014 12:56 PM

ideas meant to...

I kinda like the idea of machined rails that look like this...

... with a chassis plate that looks like this.

The servo saver mount also seems to always end up getting bent somehow...

Arcocustom clamp-style servo saver/shock tower brace & sway bar mounts :firedevil:

Some sway bars & mounts would be nice.

The old CRP-style frame braces & adjustable motor mount. Racey-type stuff...

Kyosho is supposed to be making all the parts to build a Turbo Scorpion...

[/url]

... did not see any wheels though.

Ideas. - Arco :)

toyranosaur 07-08-2014 02:00 PM

Badingza! (Portmanteau word combining Badda-Boom, Bingo, & Bazinga.) Very nice Mate: See, contrary to what seems to be popular opinion, I actually DON'T know a lot about every Vintage car, option, mod, history, etc. So posts like this are invalueable!

Lots of great stuff there Arco! It ALL seems doable, providing the want is there, i.e. the first couple items go well. Just what I do, & I like them all: This car is a great candidate for CNC'd goodies.

The rails might look good in a nice 'I'-beam style with holes, I'll wait to see 'em but? The wheels, I gotta be real honest & say that the way I do mine, it'd be hard to make 'em look that nice! I mill mine, which is dandy, but the brushed finish would be difficult to replicate (The stock bass-turds look more like Al. than Al. does, those rotten :censor: :censor:....)

I DO need a break, & I'm verty cheesed about this car, so pretty likely soon. Arco, the parts you called 'Arco' parts- Are those made by you, designed by you, or? Nice pieces! Just wanna know 'sup there for my own edification. Again, great time-saving & thought-provoking post! Chris REC

Yes, the servo saver brace was my own creation and it is based on two popular mods from way back when... the "RCH shock tower brace" & the "CRP servo saver brace."

The clamp is a stock Kyosho #SC-3 "Arm Shaft Block." The tube brace is the same diameter as the front "Arm Shaft." It is has 3mm threads at both ends. The aluminum plate that was used for the shock tower brace was the same thickness as the front shock mounts.

The entire rear suspension & drivetrain is held in with 3 screws. Things kinda want to move around. An alloy rear cage looks nice and helps fix the shock tower flex.

Want to make the Scorp faster?? Ditch the tub. TOMAHAWK

toyranosaur 07-08-2014 03:37 PM

Aha!! So I can steal your design, make ONE snigglin' lil' difference, and call it MINE?!? Perfect! :excited: If I do something like that, I shall of course give you credit Mate. Dang, it's nice to be psyched about a 'new' car! Sure hope things work out sales-wise- I don't need to get rich, so :eager: I appreciate your info, photos, and documentation, very cool. Chris REC

*Kinda dawns on me that this has sorta turned into a hijacked thread! I shall start one in my forum about this car, so this one can take its course, sorry all. Chris REC

Go for it. :) How about a few possibile upgrades to it though?

The stock servo saver is also retained with an E-clip and is non-adjustable. Maybe make the servo saver adjustable..? ...quick adjustable?? ...spring tension to my liking adjustable??

...or perhaps a solid bell crank????? a solid bell crank with multiple mounting holes for the steering rods??

...or maybe just a billet lower half of the servo saver with multiple mounting holes (could/would also work with potential spring tension adjuster & tower brace)

...billet steering spindles that flatten the angle on the steering rods, reducing the bump-steer like on that 1982 Tomahawk world championship car?

The #SC-3 "Arm Shaft Block" is cast aluminum and it has been known to snap right in half sometimes.

Building a hopped up Scorpion is getting expensive;

Kyosho has released only some of the items on the Option Parts list. HG shocks are out, but require longer shock towers, which are not yet released. The carbon fiber shock towers I initially got will be spares after the HG shocks arrive. A longer set has been ordered from rccarbonworks.com.

My kit was missing a grub screw from the front trailing arm mount. So, it makes sense to get the nice billet mounts on ebay from dwyz250. Of couse the mathing billet rear trailing arm mounts are a fantastic accompanyment to the front.

The Tomahawk style electronics tray has to be added to match the carbon fiber.

And who can resist Rogue Element wheels with RC4wd tires.

MIP's Ultima RB diff is smooth as butter. But it doesnt come with the center bolt or T-nut. And the T-nut from other kits doesn't fit. Logically, the answer is to get the Kyosho RB diff.

Yes, I bought all this stuff and its not even half way assembled. Steep learning curve with the aftermerket parts.

come on man

:update:

http://www.kyoshoamerica.com/search....y=14&search=GO

has 79 items in stock now for the 2014 scorpion. Talked to the distributer on the phone a couple of days ago and he stated that he is having trouble getting some of the option parts in-stock. In particular are the led lights, moulded carbon fiber chassis pieces, and the universal driveshafts. He has them ordered but has no idea on their availability or an ETA.

I actually bought a few things from Jason's store jr-rc on ebay and he only shipped TWO of them. The SCW004 Kyosho Scorpion 2014 Carbon Servo Saver Mount is the part that has me stumped here. Saw it. Bought it. Was not delivered. Now Jason will not answer my messages either. I got to searching and there are none to be found anywhere else either. During my search I noticed that there may be a flaw with the part...???

...this is the photo of the item that was purchased.

countersunk hardware, but no countersunk mounting holes... for $53.00. :nice: ... and it did not ship. I did not get a refund either. I am not getting any answers as well... lovely.

Also, when I was building my kit, one of the "arm mount spacers (upper link mount)" pivot ball mounting hole was stripped. I had to drill and tap it to 3mm to make it work. As an added bonus, the wheels in the kit were scratched all to death and had to be replaced too.

In addition, there is a terrible binding issue going on with the rear suspension and driveline.

I had to LIGHTLY file the flashing from the inside of the pivot area on the swing arms...

.... and grind the inside of the drive cups on the diff because they are perfectly flat instead of cupped. smh :puke:

there is also a problem with where the front shock towers mount onto the chassis rails...

Because they are made from straight bar stock and then bent, the rails are deformed at the bend, and the shock mounts will not sit flush. A drift file fixes this, but this is more work for you, the builder. Once you get that taken care of, you will want to cut some 2mm or 3mm spacers to shim the front shock mounts outwards to get some more clearance for the body to fit....

So, that is what I have to share. Hope this post was helpful to some of ya'll. Best of luck with the builds fellas. - Arco

Banzai Hobbies.. come on man

http://banzaihobby.com/radio-control...-release-parts

Forgot to add that I had placed an order with another online retailer inb Japan and they only sent one of the 5 items that were ordered and it cost 12 dollars to ship.... it has yet to arrive. :banghead: It looked promising. It was not. I did however receive a refund for what they did not have which is more than I can say for the "other guy".

:vaderno:

... waited in vain to get some stuff made locally so there would not be this much a problem, but sadly that somehow fell on through. Maybe next time...

toyranosaur 09-26-2014 02:40 PM

So, all one need do is not answer Emails & one gets to keep $$ without shipping product? I have a new time-saving & profitable business model! :bacondance:

I thought the 1st guy was reputable, even if he's out with something there should be someone to send a form email or such. This seems to happen a lot in R/C, or maybe I just notice it since R/C boards are what I read. That sucks, takes a lot of the fun out of dressing up your new car; It seems you're not alone from posts all over the place. Nothing worse that just NOT KNOWING what's up, all the worst-case scenarios start immediately. Chris REC

Arcocustom 09-26-2014 03:40 PM

@
toyranosaur

I thought the 1st guy was reputable too. I have purchased 2014 Scorpion stuff from him before. He sold two of the SCW004 mounts on ebay.

http://www.ebay.de/itm/SCW004-Kyosho...item5669a90efe

Wondering if both have somehow vanished? When I talked to the US distributer he said the folks in Japan are instructed by Kyosho to NOT ship items to the USA. He said it was a major problem of his right now but no one (in japan) seems to take it seriously. He has hundreds of each piece on order but no eta.

Maybe by christmas i said... :o

*edit

I did see some Rouge Elements schtuff mounted on a scorp and I thought the complimented the model well. I was watching the roof panels and I made a mistake and forgot to buy one... my bad. The knock-offs are a nice compliment to the wheels IMHO as well. http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.ph...5178&start=705

toyranosaur 09-26-2014 04:44 PM

I just don't get the "This country gets NO toy car parts but that one does" stuff.....We're not at war with Japan, and they seem to like us, which is getting rarer by the day. If a company has distribution set up for the US, why on Earth would they sell cars but only certain parts? "You deserve the colored body tubs, but WHOA on them shocks!" :banghead:

I am of the opinion, right or wrong, that a handful of chaps are into the car and as the threads are pretty dead no more REC Scorpion parts will be made. This bums me out a lot, I really dig doing parts I wanna do (For cars I own :nice:) The ones discussed in the thread previously woulda been great. But PM me on a roof Mate. No knockoffs sadly! Chris REC

Arcocustom 09-26-2014 05:00 PM

yeah, the goodies used to be impossible to get from Japan... you had to literally know someone that lived there... the computer makes it easier, but you still need them to help by fulfilling the order and such.

I have a build going right now that is comprised almost entirely from aftermarket parts for the Scorpion, Tomahawk & Turbo Scorpion.

An engraved roof panel would make a nice addition to the parts pile. I alredy have 5 sets of the spinners from back-in-the day. I believe it was a buy 4 get one free type dealy... Thank You for the offer toyranosaur. I reckon you will be needing my addy.

I got my frame and motor mount on the 25th too, but strangely, I did not receive the carbon servo mount that I paid for. During my search as to why this was, I ran across a couple of your posts. I just got a message from jason at jrrc saying that my mount shipped separately with no eta.

I was just curious that if perhaps you had a similar experience with your order from jason being short an item, or perhaps containing the wrong item?

I really do like your buggy, especially that servo saver mount. :nice: How are those Red trailing arms? I almost bid on those things too but decided that I wanted to "theme" my car in a different color.

Looking good,
Arco

Suprachrgd82 10-02-2014 10:35 PM

You're lucky you got a response from Jason. I'm awaiting the rear HG tower, mini bumper, and axles from my order about a month ago. No response to my 3 e-mails regarding shipment.

The guys on TamiyaClub say he's becoming inaccurate with oders.

Those are the red D-Hawk arms that were on ebay. They are bulky and travel is limited with the alloy rear mounts. It'll be a shelf queen, so I'm not too concerned.

I did have almost enough parts left to build another car, so it only took a few ebay orders to make an additional kit. My daughter has claimed the spare car.

Arcocustom 10-03-2014 03:49 AM

Nice. I guess RPP had some kits parted out on there. I got my kit from Cory at RPP and got a free shipping, a free battery, and 20 dollars off. I hava a ton of leftovers from mine too. I am just piling them up. The KYOSHO #30614B will be the next purchase for me. As for the Option Part...

Not sure how the Sidewinder body will be mounted, but it likely involve some HPI body posts.

Just got my Banzai stuff... what a mess. I ended-up with an item I did not order and 4 out of the 5 that I did...

SCW010 - CNC Front Caster Lock Set (2pcs/Scorpion 2014)
SCW016 - HG Wing Stay Set (Scorpion 2014)
SCW015 - Light Bucket Compatible Roll Cage Set (Scorpion 2014)
SCW017 - Light Bucket Set (2pcs/Scorpion 2014)

I got the HG Wing Stay for the plastic mount that the wing bolts to. It looks nearly the same as the Assault/Turbo Scorpion except that it is 4mm narrower where it bolts to the aluminum standoff and it uses bolts with a captured nut to secure the wing to the mount. I went ahead and used a nylon washer on each side and swapped-out the new part for my homemade part.

I also have an HG part that I do not need that was somehow substituted with my order. I think I got overcharged too but it is in (6,820.00) Yen charged & (5,460.00) Yen worth of parts sent... smh

Suprachrgd82 10-03-2014 03:01 PM

I been kicking the idea around of using one of those to mount the Sidewinder body. One o' them all flattened out would be a great mount. Curently torn between the wing mount or this:

I would keep the OG Tomahawk Heat sync intact and use something or some other method IMHO. You could use tall spacers underneath the roll bar with longer bolts and the clip from the plastic roll cage. I could give you an overall height for that if you need it. The HG wing mount provides a new cover for the top of the transmission but the "stanchion" is made of is very flexible plastic. The wing mount is also made to pivot. Not sure if it would be solid enough to mount the body to the stanchion, But the NEW trans cover may be a starting point for a solid body mount...

After some thought, the new Beetle body mounts could be an option. Perhaps the REAR plastic Beetle body mounts clamped to your stock scorpion aluminum roll bar??

You would just need a longer bolt and a spacer for the stock aluminum post that the 2014 Beetle uses.
