Default Junkyard Stance Sand Scorcher, Final Rear Cage

So, my designs for the rear Engine Cage to house and protect the engine changed quite a bit as the engine itself evolved

My final design removed the rear tabs for the aerial fixing, for a more scale look

The engine has to be fitted into the Engine Cage at this point, as once the twin Turbo Exhaust is fitted, wiggling the engine into the cage became an issue

I planned four mounting points for the Porsche engine, two on the underside, and two on the inner facing side - but in the end, only used the two on the underside

I was finally happy with the fit and look of my enlarger rear Engine Cage.
For added protection, the part was designed to meet the material tolerances for Shapeways cast metal.

So bring on the metal version -

Default Junkyard Stance Sand Scorcher, Twin Turbo Exhaust

The final parts for my Porsche inspired, flat six, air-cooled power unit for the Junkyard Stance Sand Scorcher is its Twin Turbo Exhaust system

For each side, there is a three part assembly - mainly for ease of painting - consisting of the Turbo Exhaust itself

And the Filter Cap

Here are the parts for one side, in primer

The fixing point to join them together needed enlarging to suit the m1.6 hardware

Default Junkyard Stance Sand Scorcher, Twin Turbo Exhaust

The pilot holes in the exhaust manifold - part of the Engine Block - are intended to take a 5mm screw from each side

These need enlarging to clear the m1.6 cap head I'm using

The corresponding male part on the Turbo Exhaust - the inlet pipe for the turbo - has a pilot hole to accept the screws. This was enlarged with a 1.2mm bit to give a good bite

Turbochargers forced feed air into Induction System, so the pilot hole in chucky feed tube to the inter-cooler was also enlarged with the same 1.2mm bit

And back to the 1.6mm bit to enlarge the remaining two holes in the turbo outlet

Thanks vonmarshall ! Glad you're enjoying the build - If you going to put an engine in the back of a Scorcher, it may as well be a flat six Porsche turbo

I will be making the engine parts available, in due course - I'd love to see what other builders could do with it !

Default Junkyard Stance Sand Scorcher, Gear Casing

A quick aside before I mount that Porsche engine on the Sand Scorcher - I decided that a matt black gearbox casing would help show of the flat six to best effect - So I stripped that sucker down

A few coats of matt black on the inside

Default Junkyard Stance Sand Scorcher, Fitting the Porsche Engine

Mounting the Porsche engine assembly to the chassis was fairly straight forward as my revised rear cage - although both wider and longer - uses the standard fixing points and original Tamiya hardware.

I revised design of the cage several times before getting the angle it sits at just right, dead flat with the chassis and it looked too low at the very rear - it tilts upwards by about two degrees

Here's a few of the primed engine, mounted on the chassis

Default Junkyard Stance Sand Scorcher, sit back, take stock

It's that time again - sit back and take stock of the work so far - particularly as the next step will see this Sand Scorcher stripped down and given the junkyard treatment

So, does the rear end of my Scorcher

There's only one small - but important - addition to the front end, and then it's off to the junkyard

I've now put a few of my parts on Shapeways for sale, should anyone be interested.
It will take me a little while to include all the parts you've seen here in this build, so please be patient, and check back from time to time to see what's new.
