EuroMillions head office have suggested that I take 16,000,000 a year for 10 years rather than the full 160,000,000 outright. So I told them that if they're going to mess me about, I'll have my 2 back.

You guy may find this a useful tip, materials especially delrin/acetal are damn expensive. Someone in the US has found a great alternative, plastic bread boards....
Picked up two yesterday, 9.5mm thick very hard and strong, should machine up nice, may also be good for chassis rails if you get thinner ones.
Obviously not perfect for everything but a very cheap alternative for a lot of parts.
Also with most plastics you can colour them by boiling them in food/cloth die, have a google on it for delrin/acetal.

Woooo GO ME.....

Spent a very productive day working out all the ****ty little bits to do with CNC so I can start cutting something.
And it went really well, I was doing the Z (up/down) manually as I'm cutting the mount for it, this one is just a mockup made from cutting board but may be strong enough for me to get it all mounted so it can cut the proper one all on it's own
I still have to cut the other side, as it needs some rebates for the stepper to fit into but I'm well happy with todays work.

Finished the mount

Did the underside, you can see I had a little mishap, couldn't easily clamp that end as it was being cut and the plastic rode up the cutter. managed to clamp it better the second time.

All fitted and amazingly fits perfectly 8)

Little video of the Z working, that axis isn't tuned yet so should go MUCH faster. Sorry it's sideways.

Made my first parts this morning 8)

I need some home switches and someone on CNCzone came up with a nice design using hall effect devices, you just need to make the switch holders which is what I did this morning.

As you can see they are quite small. Very quickly deburred it before I took the photo so the edges look a little wonky

This is what they are like with the components inside and sealed with epoxy or potting compound.

And there's more

Got auto zeroing working, this is so cool.

Setting Z(height) zero, you can see I was a little nervous with the huge chunk of foam
I'll make a fixed plate on the machine as well, then with the homing switches it pretty much automates tool changes.

Here it is doing centre finding, the ali tube is just resting on top of the touch plate.
As you can see from the screen with the right plates it will auto find pretty much any position.
