Update (aka why I'm not driving rc trucks)

New graphics for 2014 season (shown with street wheels)

Two full seasons and really getting to know the car. Last year I took 3rd overall in my class for the series.

Learned a few things. Previous owner forgot to tell me he swapped in bigger brakes from later car. NICE!

After 2 years of running it hard and putting it away wet I blew the motor last August at a NASCAR track. Oil starved the engine on the banking I think (due to being a quart low. forgot to check it that morning).
New (used) engine, bigger displacement, cost nothing. Well, $650 for the complete engine with accessories (alternator, etc). New clutch, water pump, timing belt, mounts, a good cleaning and some paint and few odd bits later and new engine in. Did it all myself single handedly except the day I pulled the old one and put this one in. Super easy considering I didnt know what I was doing.

Then in December I blew the diff. Apparently a ticking time bomb with stock motor, let alone the bigger 1.8. Upgraded to newer, bigger Torsen LSD diff/axles/driveshaft. Again did all the work myself.

Old one

new one installed.

Changed track wheel color for this year (taken before the new 2014 graphics)

Having a f'ing ball!

Not sure this link will work but here's a video of me taken from a fellow competitors POV taken last round. I'm the silver/red car passing on the left at beginning. You can see puffs of blue smoke every once in a while-signs the diff was already going. Diff blew next session.

Nice indeed, looks like the old martini graphics on the fender. New motor is awfully shiny!

Don't leave it in the garage. Mine is down and out - mice came in, ate through the shift boot seal and the boot itself, and made a nest under the front seat. I hate winter.

That looks like a ball. Unfortunately it would take a very long drive from my location to get to any form of SCCA track time. I'm would like to tune an E46 BMW for track time, only because Miata's are not comfortable enough for me. Are you just doing spec racing or some other class?
