Default The Sandman cometh..... ( AKA WTH is a Holden HX Sandman Overlander....?!! )

Wow! I actually started it! My first scratch built body...! Been working on it for a couple of weeks now.. I wanted to make some progress on the nose panel first before posting any pics as I think this will make or break this build..lol!

I use to own the sedan version of this car back in the day but never realized until a couple of years ago that a 4WD version of the wagon, ute and panel van was also available as an 'after market' version.

This is what I'm hoping to accomplish...but the version I'm doing is with the single headlights....

These are the other versions...

I'm using a stock TF2 chassis as the dimensions are really close for a 1/10 Sandman Overlander. The only mod I will probably do to the chassis is to make the front 'spring under'. I will either get shorter shocks or otherwise raise the shock hoops to compensate for the axle being over the spring.

Anywho....here's some progress pics...

Subbed.
Great start.
I used to have a HQ GTS look alike for my first car.
I've wanted a scale version for years.
The Overlander is a great idea.
Ford made one to, the XY 4X4

Thanks pardonmyn00b! '70s Aussie classics, made by Holden GMH ( GM's Austrailian division) exported to very few countries as a RHD vehicle, so never made it to the states...I may be corrected by our buddies down under! Lol!

Actually In the first Mad Max movie, Max drove a Sandman on his vacation trip. But its the street version, not the Overlander .

There is definately something cool with those cars, even more with the overlander versions! I like car builds, which are pretty rare is custom/scratch projects, this one being half car half hardcore offroad is a nice mix hahaha

Thought that's what it was... the Mad Max car. Super cool idea and looks like you're off to great start. I love how you made the sides 3D. I like the stance of the first pic but it looks like a jacked-up hearse. Looking forward to more.

Hey thanks Will! Ha! Yeah I see what you mean, initially I wanted to do the station wagon, but was afraid I'll mess it up with the pillars and the roof...so opted for the easier (?) build! Lol!
I still plan to build the wagon but I'll see how the Sandman turns out first.

This one looks pretty bada$$, but it's the only one pic I could find of it...!
